TPLF's Cruel Con Game

In what could be an important test of the Trump Administration’s attitude toward foreign aid, the new United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, and UN aid chief Stephen O'Brien have called on the international community to give the Ethiopian government another $948 million to assist a reported 5.6 million people facing starvation.

Speaking in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, during the recent 28th Summit of the African Union, Guterres described Ethiopia as a “pillar of stability” in the tumultuous Horn of Africa, praised its government for an effective response to last year's climate change-induced drought that left nearly 20 million people needing food assistance, and asked the world to show “total solidarity” with the regime.

Ethiopia is aflame with rebellions against its unpopular dictatorship, which tried to cover up the extent of last year’s famine. But even if the secretary general’s encouraging narrative were true, it still begs the question: Why, despite ever-increasing amounts of foreign support, can’t this nation of 100 million clever, enterprising people feed itself? Other resource-poor countries facing difficult environmental challenges manage to do so.

Two numbers tell the story in a nutshell:

1. The amount of American financial aid received by Ethiopia’s TPLF government since it took power: $30 billion.

2. The amount stolen by Ethiopia’s TPLF leaders since it took power: $30 billion.

"When Eritrean forces entered Tigray, they found warehouses full of food-aid that was intended for the hungry people of Tigray, but was stolen and stored in the warehouses by the TPLF that were selling the food-aid for profit. Even at the best of times, a third of Agames were dependent on food subsidies for survival. The 2 year war has totally shattered that fragile security. In addition, massive theft of food by TPLF higher-ups resulted in the suspension of food-aid by international agencies. So, when the inevitable cyclical drought struck, famine was inevitable. The question is: Why have the TPLF thugs failed to solve this recurrent problem once and for all, when they had the means of doing so during their 27 years of looting Ethiopia. Some analysts believe that it was a deliberate policy of the TPLF to keep Chigar people on the edge of near starvation. Why they would want to do so speaks volumes about how evil Agames are!

He lost is son in TPLF's war-of-choice. Mike Hammer's Foundation then gave the father 10,000 Birr ($170 dollars) as a compensation for his loss. The TPLF that delivered the money to the father, returned to his home at night and took it all away at gun point. This is the reality in Chigray.

The cost of building the renaissance dam: $4 Billion.

The amount of money stolen by Tigray leaders: $30 Billion -- an amount that could build 7 renaissance dams in Tigray!

Which begs the question: Why is Tigray starving?
