The Neguse Negest system is an organic federalist system devised by Ancient Tigrayans in Axum. The core foundations of the system are respect for autonomy, self-rule and differences. Hence, the Abyssinia / Ethiopian Empire has always been a federalist arrangement.

The Neguse Negest system is a federalist system where the Neguses have autonomy on their territories and pay taxes to the Neguse Negest (federal government). The Neguse Negest looks after common defense and international relations. Actually, it looks like it was HSI who ended the federalist system when he fired the Neguses but still kept the Neguse Negest title. He introduced a centralized state system into a country that has always been a federalist structure. Mengistu continued the madness of unitary state which resulted in Eritrea's independence.

The Isaias, Abiy & Amhara Elite / fake 'Ethiopianist' alliance have plunged the country into another bloody war after 30 years in order to re-install a centralized / unitary state system and end the existing Constitutional Federalism. Tigray has single-handedly defeated the Alliance and forced PM Abiy & his PP to commit to keep Constitutional Federalism.

Prof Mesay Kebede agrees with my explanation of the federalist / Neguse Negest system invented by ancient Tigrayans in Axum and how Haile Selassie I replaced the organic system with a centralized state system which is incompatible with a very large, diverse and populous Ethiopia.

Nothing wrong with federalism as the central government is still more powerful than the regional governments. The problem is with this ethnic based version of federalism. No region should be named after an ethnic group and Ethiopia should employ geographical federalism like in Australia

There is nothing wrong with Regions merging or splitting if they choose to do so. But trying to change them by force / through unconstitutional manner is the problem. For example, the Southern region's borders have changed twice in the last year and 2 regions have been constituted. There is nothing sacred about the current regional borders. But they can only be changed by constitutional arrangement. Otherwise, if bigger regions start sending their soldiers to re-draw their borders, who is going to be safe? No one! That would be a recipe for never-ending chaos. Almost all regions in Ethiopia are multi-ethnic regions (maybe Sindama is different).

You cannot eliminate border / land disputes by making regions multi-ethnic. Amhara region is multi-ethnic but it has land / border dispute with all surrounding regions. Land / border disputes have always existed in history. What is needed legal framework of sorting them.

sarcasm we need to have a system whereby every square inch of Ethiopian national territory belongs to every Ethiopian citizen regardless of ethnicity, religion etc. We need to have an indivisible Ethiopia in which every region is multiethnic (or at the very least doesn't have the whole population of one ethnic group located in just one region). We need to have every region be named after its main city/town and lastly every region must be banned from having its own flag, emblem, anthem, armed forces etc

Land is not an ethnic group sole property and ownership. Ethnic group has no legal personality, it is rather the ownership of every citizens of the land - that is why every individual has national obligation to defend every inch of the land. That was why from North to South and East to West fought against invading forces Sied Baare of Somalia and chased out of the province of Harrarghe. Harraghe province is inhabited by all Ethiopians.

Have you ever been in Dire Dawa or Jijiga of Hararghe province? Or engaged in contraband? I am certain neither of your close relatives fought in the battle of Karamara to kick Somalia out of Ethiopia for they were Dedebit rebels. Amhara already turned your dream into nightmare, you will never stop talking about Amhara. Loss caused you severe trauma.
