A must-read for any African scholar

Anyone with an interest in Africa and especially Ethiopia must read this book. The author was there, part of the government of the dictator Mengistu, before fleeing to save his life as he tried to get the world to notice the Great Famine. His description of the subsequent failed coups and the downfall of Mengistu are chilling, tragedies of the first order. His later work in the trouble spots Rwanda, Angola, Liberia and Darfur make you wonder what will it take for Africa to end these senseless massacres and wars. Maybe it will take a devout spirituality, like the author demonstrates, to pull the people of Africa out of its crisis. Unfortunately, his portrait of the current leadership and situation in Ethiopia is not encouraging. History students, political science students should be especially interested in this follow-up to Red Tears."

Dawit w/g is a jewel of Ethiopia. Derg mishandled him. Just imagine what he would do to his country if has been united with the likes of Akililu h/w.
He served Africa very well.
