The Eri govt zeal in addressing this fake news is funny, when you remember how they kept mum when Dina Mufta officially insulted Eris saying they regret separation from Ethiopia and observe independence day in sadness and not festive mood. Yemane and Isaias said nothing then, now going against Yoni Magna or Borkena is not going to impress anybody.

But I think the difference between the two is that one is an opinion, while the other is reporting. The second is duty bound to cite its sources, while the first is not.

Dina Mufti was a spokesperson of the Ethio govt and said what he said in an official capacity, that makes it more than just opinion. But basically, I agree with you on the difference between news and opinion.
