The government shutting down reputable information sources and worse arresting them certainly will have an adverse effect on its military operations. In the 21st century, such level of lawlessness by any government is unacceptable, and can not function indefinitely like that. Respecting the conventional rules of engagement in the battle field and reporting major news worthy events to its citizens is the duty of a government. Whereas arresting journalists covering the news when it fails to carry out its duty is unacceptable. The arrest of Gobeze Sisay for doing a commendable job shows how low the government is in terms of doing its duty and respecting freedom.
For that matter, Gobeze Sisay helped the Ethiopian Defense Force on many occasions, last year when TPLF reached Shewarobit and now when TPLF is about to take over Raya. Knowingly or unknowingly, the government and ENDF had been in a deep sleep and were feeding the public false news about the war until Gobeze Sisay broke the real news and cautioned the government and armed forces to step up and fight fiercely. When someone hides information: there are at least three things to suspect 1) There is too much falsehood involved 2) The battlefield does not follow accepted rules of engagement 3) Third parties will get excuse to twist the government hand. To avoid these, release journalists and EBC should equally cover the news.
