I know Getachew Redda in and out. I know who he aspires to be. He has two persons who defined him.
First and foremost he emulates his alter ego Meles Zenawi. For Getch, Meles Zenawi is the superior being and his whole act and exercise is to think, talk and walk like him. Meles also knew Getachew but you know Meles is a shark who knows a fake from a mile away so he shunned him from giving him any position. In fact, it was Hailemariam who took Getch under his wings appointing him as his advisor. Getch in reality felt slighted by Meles’s banishment and held a grudge on him, which also fueled his envy on Meles and led him to even work harder to sharpen his English skills to come with a vengeance to appear he’s on par with Meles.
Getch’s other alter ego is a Gondere friend of his who groomed Getch with his intellectualism. Getch adored this guy (who is genius but eccentric and iconoclastic to the point of passing for an insane guy). But he’s worshipped and adored by Getch (and others intellectual wannabes) to the extent that he used to live off of them as he couldn’t keep a job as he had no patience to be employed. Getch used to kneel under his foot and learn all the intellectual gymnastics from this guy.
I have no respect for wannabes. In fact I admire my uneducated mom who has bigger innate “intellectual” breadth than wannabes. The intellectualism of some is not organic and didn’t grow naturally built with incremental thought process and analysis from the inside. Kureja always remains stale and is not human-centered. The end of all knowledge is MAN. Knowledge is the means and MAN is the end. If I have all the information in the world and if that information is not weaponized to the BENEFIT AND ADVANTAGE of fellow human beings, then that information is useless because it’s not been synthesized to KNOWLEDGE. Information that is not knowledge is useless to MAN.
You can fake information as a know-it-all but you can’t fake knowledge as than needs healthy thinking and analysis geared towards the benefit of human beings. If you could roll out a million jargons and could intimidate tagays with your bombastic words, it could bake you your bread but it can’t improve the lives the people you’re “fighting for” and bring them out of the misery you and your fellow selfish crooks have put them in.
Kureja is the worst form of all personalities. “Be yourself, they’re not going to like you anyway” is true.
If you had a false start as a wannabe (Koraj), you are fake and real people have contempt for you. Getch is one of them.
