As Mesopotamia is the Oldest name of Iraq, Geez is the Oldest Name of Amharic.
The name of many countries and their dominant population group speaking the domninat langauge changed names over spans. For instance, Iran was once named as Persian, Iraq as Mespotomia, Egypt as Misir etc. The demographically dominat Geez speaking speaking people of Ethiopia so are now named as Amhara, which itself is an Original True Geez name.

Geez is the oldest name for Tigrigna of Tigray. Amharic is less related to Geez. Tigrigna is Geez and Arabic.

Agian, Tigrigna is the hybrid of Geez and its modern version of Amharic with a dilution of linguistic fragmnets from Yemeni orgin.
