Arsenal now face a major battle to sign Alexander Isak with Manchester United and Liverpool both believed to be keen on the Real Sociedad star.

That’s according to The Sunday Mirror https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ (13/03, p67), who claim that Isak is attracting more and more Premier League interest.

United are allegedly resigned to losing out on Erling Haaland, believing he is joining rivals Manchester City instead.

Haaland isn’t the only Scandinavian attacker with huge potential though, as Real Sociedad star Isak is exciting too.

United are believed to be keen on Isak in a deal worth around £60million, but the report adds that Liverpool are also interested.

The main rumour surrounding Isak has been with Arsenal, who are desperate for a big striker signing this summer.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both out of contract this summer and Mikel Arteta may need two or even three strikers brought in.

Spanish newspaper SPORT claim https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2022/02/24/r ... barcelona/ that Arsenal have made contact with Isak’s representatives in the hope of thrashing out a deal.

That will now become very complicated with United seemingly ready to spend big on Isak this summer.

We can’t see a deal with Liverpool happening though. They just splashed the cash on Luis Diaz, adding him to Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in a star-studded attack.

Blowing more cash on Isak just doesn’t really make sense for Liverpool right now, certainly not unless somebody leaves this summer.

Arsenal may be able to convince Isak if they clinch a top four spot, and you have to say that the Gunners look more likely to reach the Champions League than United do right now.

That fourth Champions League could be vital to any hopes of signing Isak, who has been branded ‘exceptional’ by Gary Lineker.

Tall, strong, quick and with quick feet, Isak is a huge talent at 22 but has only managed four league goals in 22 games this season.

For £60million, United and Arsenal would be looking for Isak to really develop as a goalscorer over the coming years, especially if he’s seen as an alternative to Haaland.

It's not Haaland, but it's Barça's most advanced alternative

Barça are starting to look at options in case they can't finally sign Erling Haaland

https://www.elnacional.cat/ca/esports/i ... 4_102.html

Barcelona. Sunday, March 13, 2022.

Erling Haaland lamenting a failed opportunity / EFE

Barça continues to work both on the pitch and in the offices. And the name Erling Haaland is still the focus of all attention when it comes to future big signings. But in recent hours there have been developments that change plans in this case.

Haaland plays again and leaves Barça

Haaland https://www.elnacional.cat/ca/esports/t ... 3_102.html has returned to play for Borussia Dortmund after recovering from his last injury. The Norwegian striker entered the 64th minute for Donyell Malen in the match against Arminia Bielefeld and had half an hour. In these minutes of play, few clear chances and little to say in a game that was already in favor of Dortmund thanks to a goal by Marius Wolf in the first half.

But for Haaland, who has not yet decided what he will do next season, time is running out. And Joan Laporta has been categorical this Sunday and could have ended the Catalan aspirations of hiring the Norwegian striker:
I understand that people are excited, but there are additions that are very difficult. Even if we had a better economy, I think that we should not do according to what operations.
However, Mateu Alemany, in the preview of the match against Osasuna, wanted to soften the words of the Catalan president:
This is not the time to rule out signings for next season. We are working as quietly as possible. Laporta's sentence it is due to media insistence.
But what it really looks like is that Barça are getting further and further away from hiring Haaland https://www.elnacional.cat/ca/esports/m ... 0_102.html. The high financial demands, which set a figure close to 250 million euros for the entire operation, leave the Barça club virtually ruled out. And who seems to be very close to taking the Norwegian is Pep Guardiola's Manchester City https://www.elnacional.cat/ca/esports/t ... 5_102.html.

The Isak option reappears

And if Haaland doesn't end up signing for Barça, there will be alternatives. The Barça club claims that the other options are of a high standard, but nothing is closed either. Names like Robert Lewandowski https://www.elnacional.cat/ca/esports/a ... 6_102.html or Romelu Lukaku https://www.elnacional.cat/ca/esports/r ... 6_102.html have appeared strongly in recent days as plans B. But there is also another cover that Xavi Hernández really likes.

Alexander Isak, the Swedish striker for Real Sociedad, is Barça's most advanced alternative https://www.elnacional.cat/ca/esports/b ... 6_102.html. The distinguishing feature with Isak is that he knows the League and that his adaptation would be quick. In addition, it would be in favor of being a low-cost signing and without the exorbitant commissions required in hiring Haaland https://www.elnacional.cat/ca/esports/j ... 6_102.html.

And although Barça have not closed the signing of Isak, as well as the non-signing of Haaland, the option of the Swedish striker is gaining momentum. It is also a more real option after seeing how the performance of Xavi's team continues to grow and that the goals that were so lacking in recent times finally arrive. Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have once again shown against Osasuna that they are goal scorers and that if Barça opts for a lower profile for the position of center-forward, it will not be out of tune either.
