What lesson can we learn from Ukraine and Russia Conflict?
1. Ukraine is a victim of being a neighbor with a big country that have more people and advanced military, but have no any reliable ports that can operate throughout the year. In Russia, the existing ports usually get frozen for many months of the year, and some are so small that ships cannot dock.
2. Ukraine leases its ports to Russia in agreement signed by both countries in 1997. In that agreement Ukraine leased the port of Sebestopol in the Crimea region, home to the Russian navy's Black Sea Fleet since the Soviet Union, and at the time of the lease Ukraine was ruled by a group believed to be pro Russian. However, in 2014, when Russia realized that a new pro-NATO faction could likely take over Ukraine, it seized control of the entire port region. Putin's concern is Ukraine’s admission into the alliance would increase NATO’s footprint along Russia’s borders.
3. Analyst who are closely following the conflict between these two countries say 17% of the Ukraine’s ethnic minorities are allied with Russia because they were discriminated and entirely excluded from the current ruling administration in Ukraine, resulting them not to see themselves as native Ukrainians and thus enhanced to collaborate with the Russians.
