No More to More of the Same: Abiy Ahmed’s Feeble Bow to TPLF is Neo-Colonial Capitulation Disguised as Reconciliation

So long to the fight against neo-colonialism and standing up to the West! In a blink of an eye, the field Marshall Abiy Ahmed—who bravely rode out to the front lines to “personally lead the charge against extremists”—quickly morphed into a field mouse the minute Jeffrey Feltman touched down in Addis Abeba. We barely had a chance to get acquainted with Menelik 2.0 before Abiy returned to his TPLF roots.

None of this is surprising; I’ve been writing for close to a year that Abiy is a false prophet who glommed on to Ethiopia’s profound history of anti-colonialism and hummed sweet tunes of unity as a means to an end. His hidden motive all along was to weaken Tigrayans, depress Amharas after inflating their egos and radicalize Oromos. Abiy needed to eradicate his rivals and place his loyalists in positions of power before he reveals his full strongman profile to Ethiopians he lulled into compliance and complacency with his vacuous “medemer” rhetoric.

Yesterday’s developments have to be seen through this prism; after spending a year utilizing the full force and might of the government to put Ethiopians on a war footing to take on TPLF terrorists, his sudden lurch towards “reconciliation” was nothing short of malpractice. Reconciliation is not possible while the other side is still fighting an active war; imagine America releasing Osama bin Laden during the “War on Terror” had they captured him alive as his Al Qaeda compatriots were lobbing missiles at Houston and Atlanta....continued...
