I am proud of my family, that does not mean I am trying to elevate myself above anyone by pointing out that I am related to Atse Tewodros. If you know anything about me, the only nigus I accept in my heart is Iyesus, all other humans, from "kings" to paupers are equal. And you are right, we are all guilty of this identity game that has robbed us of our common identity, i admit my flaws and work hard daily to overcome them. I once had a conversation with an agame man who works as a security guard at the building where my office is located, and asked him to tell me why he despises Ethiopians and hates Eritreans.

He said, back in the 1950's, his father migrated to Eritrea in search of farm work and he was stunned to find a country illuminated by Italian architectures, sprawling modern cities and towns, which made him wonder if similar modernization could have occurred in his native Tigray had the Oromo and Amhara people never fought against the Italian invaders at Adwa.

He said this experience led his father to develop a deep-seated resentment towards the Ethiopian people for depriving him of the opportunity to get Italian modernization, and a massive inferiority complex towards the Eritrean people for reasons only a psychiatrist can fully explain.

He said his late father was one of the founding-fathers of the TPLF. Go figure!
