- Sudanese official: Hamdok retracts his resignation

A Sudanese official revealed to "Al-Ain News", on Wednesday, that Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok agreed not to submit his resignation after disputes over interference in his appointments of civil service leaders.
The Sudanese official, who preferred not to be named, confirmed that a number of political figures and officials in the government, on Tuesday, had contacts with the Prime Minister and asked him not to resign and to continue in his position.
He added that the Prime Minister responded to those demands and agreed to continue in the position in order to stabilize the country.
He pointed out that an urgent meeting was held today, including the political forces, to reach common understandings between the two parties about the coming period.
For his part, another Sudanese source explained about a meeting that took place at dawn today, Wednesday, that brought together Hamdok and the head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, to discuss the resignation.
And yesterday, Tuesday, two Sudanese sources revealed to "Al-Ain News" that Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok intends to submit his resignation.
The two sources added that "Hamdok will submit his resignation in objection to the interference in his appointments of civil service leaders."
They attributed the reason for the expected resignation to "disagreements over appointments and dismissals of employees in the public service, as Hamdok objected to the interventions of the military component."
According to the sources, "there was a dispute between Hamdok and the military component of the Sovereignty Council over the recent Prime Minister's decision to return Luqman Ahmed to the position of director of the Sudanese Television Authority after he was excluded during the last period."
They explained that "the return of Luqman was one of Hamdok's demands, at a time when the military component rejects this and adheres to the fact that the director of the Television Authority is subject in his work to the authority of the Moral Guidance Department of the Sudanese army."
The two sources added, "Among the other reasons about Hamdok's intention to resign is that he (Hamdok) does not feel his ability to create a political consensus with the escalation of protests in the country rejecting his agreement with the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant-General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan."
And Hamdok had issued, yesterday evening, Tuesday, a decision that terminated the assignment of Ibrahim Al-Bazai from the position of Director General of the Radio and Television Authority.
Hamdok said, in a statement, that this comes “in accordance with the provisions of the constitutional document,” referring to “the reappointment of Luqman Ahmed Muhammad as Director General of the Public Authority for Radio and Television.”
The Sudanese Prime Minister stressed the concerned authorities to “take measures to implement the decision.”
