How many countries are there in the African continent?

Post by Fiyameta » 01 Oct 2021, 01:48

How many countries are there in the African continent?
54.
Permanent UN Security Council Seats: None, Zero, Nada! Zilch!
(Agame say Tigray holds a permanent seat at the UN Security council, however such claim is debatable.)

How many countries are there in Asia?
48.
Permanent UN Security Council Seats: Two. China and Russia

How many countries are there in Europe?
44.
Permanent UN Security Council Seats: Three. United Kingdom, France, Germany.

How many countries are there in North America?
23.
Permanent UN Security Council Seats: One. USA.

How many countries are there in South America?
12.
Permanent UN Security Council Seats: None, Zero, Nada!

How many countries are there in Australia/Ocenia?
14.
Permanent UN Security Council Seats: None, Zero, Nada!

The African continent has more countries than the rest of the continents, yet it does not have a permanent seat at the UN Security Council. Do you think that's fair?

The valid concerns you have raised is already the modus operandi of the UN. Case in point: back in 2011, when some permanent members of the UNSC wanted to expand the illegal sanctions imposed on Eritrea, the draft resolution was deliberately made to have an African face and was circulated by the West African nation of Gabon, a country whose people and government can't locate Eritrea on the World map, let alone know anything about it!

So, what do you suggest is the alternative to the status quo?

I would trust South Africa to be a permanent member of the UNSC. In addition to that African Solidarity should be part of the curriculum of every education system in the continent. At this moment as far as Africa is concerned there are Africans but there are no African family of states. That is extremely dangerous with predatory countries like the USA still around.

Fiyameta,

So, you want to democratize the UN. YA....YA.......That should start at home.   The five permanent security council members are the ones who fought in the Second World War and defeated Nazi Germany. Actually, China was a victim of the Imperial Japanese hegemony. Hence, the Russians needed a communist country to accompany them. The UN is not an effective organization. It does not carry the authorization to override sovereignty to bring down illegitimate governments. It is a loose organization. Might is right. If you love might is right at home, then feel comfy. But, sooner or later, a much powerful power will breath over you. Like it or not, you will be bullied. Unless power by the people is enshrined in the UN, with a power to enforce it, then it will be a matter of time before the most powerful countries go head to head. Americans have the real power, the soviets are on the decline, but the Chinese may be on the rise. Hence, the world as you know it will end sooner or later.

In case you haven't notice, I'm actually advocating for your Tigray to become a permanent member of the UN Security Council, because I can't think of any other country that values human life, condemns the use of child soldiers in armed conflict, very tough on government corruption, actively engages in a fight against inequality, and prevents nepotism and favoritism. It's also worthy to note that, when Global powers were fighting in WW2, your Tigray was supplying modern weapons to the victors of the war. I think you agame should be granted a permanent seat at the UNSC so you may judge the world with righteousness and truth!
