Stay Clear Of Messing With A Somali

Post by Somaliman » 30 Aug 2021, 07:08

The gunman who killed three police officers and a private security guard on a rampage through a diplomatic quarter of Tanzania's main city Dar es Salaam, was a gold dealer on a supposed revenge mission after police allegedly confiscated his gold.

Police said the attacker had first shot two police officers with a pistol at an intersection in the district, which houses a number of diplomatic missions. He took rifles from the fallen police officers, and headed on foot to the French embassy a few hundred meters away, firing randomly and occupying the guard house.

Good that he went after what was his and those criminals in uniform but I don't get why embassies?

Did they had something to do with it and perhaps wanted the gold for themselves?

Somalis mined gold in Mozambique and Tanzania since the 9th century establishing the town of Sofala (Soo Fala meaning "Go Dig") in Mozambique coast.

They did that until the Portuguese kicked them out in around 1507-1520.

The Arabs tried to join as well but Somalis refused then Arabs set up Kilwa in southern Tanzania.

Eventually Kilwa became bigger than Sofala.

This is also how Somalis joined the Bantu slave trade

His aim was not the embassies. He was just "at an intersection in the district, which houses a number of diplomatic missions," where he met those corrupt police officers.

Guess what! The police both in Tanzania and Kenya are highly corrupt to the extent that if I pay $50 to a police officer either in Kenya or Tanzania and ask them to go arrest Hawdian without any allegation, they'll come straight to you and arrest you. And the funnier thing is that you pay $100 to the same officer who arrested you and ask them to go arrest me (Somaliman), they'll release you and come straight to me and arrest me, and if I pay them $200, they'll come back to you and take you back into their custody!

That's a messed up place. My uncle used to live in TZ. He was one of those Somali truckers.

Tanzania, as a country is nice and there's an awful lot of business opportunities, even though Dar es Salaam is too hot, dirty, and dusty. Don't be fooled by the high-rise buildings in Dar. In Tanzania, it seems that they haven't got any notion about pavement and green spaces. You come out of those tall buildings and dust greets you. And it takes ages to get anything sorted out in Tanzania, as they keep telling you "Kesho" (tomorrow) non-stop.

One day, I was chatting with a former Tanzanian teacher of school, who was in his 60s, running a Forex business at that time. Guess what he told me - "in Tanzania, everybody wakes up in the morning to go steal in one form or another!"

I have extensively travelled around the world, including Africa, and I have rarely seen people that are unfriendlier than Tanzanians in Dar. In Arusha, where the climate is fabulous, they're much better. I found my ideal climate both in Arusha and Kigali (and of course all Rwanda) - Bujumbura (Burundi) is fine but unlivable due to mosquito that bite you en masse even during the day - due to Lake Tanganyika.
