The churches of lalibela had strong outside influence seen in this symbol which is not native to Ethiopia or Africa. The carvers of the church were definitely Lasta Abyssinians whos DNA is today’s Amhara and Waghemra people.
The sole purpose of lalibela was replacing Jerusalem during the 12th century because it fell to the Muslims. The crusaders came to the Christian Zagwe kingdom to design new churches
