I do not think it is being dumb. I think they want to show to certain outsiders they are a formidable force who could just walk all the way to Addis if they want to. They know they will not make it to neighboring Gonder, why the propaganda ? Maybe they promised the president of Egypt something, and he might have said, where is the beef ?
Just a thought otherwise what they are doing is downright crazy.
