I think we have already applauded to the idea of United Africa and it seems there are no significant voices, if any, opposing to it, isn't it?

The next step would be naturally asking about how that could be realized, the implementation step. Do you have an idea?

I for one tried to ask myself about the scenario and looked at some precedences, specially that of the EU.

One of the key steps the EU demanded for its formation was the harmonization of how the citizens of the individual states were governed, at least with regard to some of the key issues of governance. I then turned back and asked this question, if Africans were also ready to do the same, but I didn't get an answer to it.

Are African states ready to harmonize the was their respective citizens are governed?

Or do you think that there is a way to circumvent this important issue and go ahead to forge the desired unity?

European nations started to think as one entity and formed the EU to thwart Russian domination. Africans should also do the same thing to free their continent from the colonialism that's attempting to return riding on terrorist agames' back.

In my view harmonizing doesn't mean start thinking as one entity, it simply implies that the way the citizens are governed will be set to a certain level of standard or norm, if you like. We can keep our diversity and still use a given standard on some key issues of governance, at least that is what I understand.

If that is the case, then we need also to ask if there is a readiness of all the stakeholders in this regard, first in themselves, then among their close neighbors or regions and at the end at the continental level?

Are, for example, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Djibouti ready to implement this idea and strengthen their unity at the regional level? This can also include other neighboring countries like Kenya, The Sudan, South Sudan, etc., if we want the cooperation should be bigger.

What is your take on that?

I'm all for collectivism that focuses on common goals and purposes shared by all Africans. If what's holding Africans back from achieving economic and political independence is the emergence of colonialism with a different name, then nurturing a collective mindset among Africans is not an option but a necessity. The West want Africans to focus on democracy, good governance, Human Rights...and all the other buzz words ... while conveniently ignoring Africans are in dire need of development that could only come by working together, trading with each other, through economic integration and cooperation agreements. We have to set our priorities straight.

I read somewhere that, 40 years after the United States gained its independence by defeating the British colonial empire, in around the 1820s, the American maxim in economic policy was said to be “Don’t do as the British tell you to do, do as the British did.” In this way, and following British practice rather than their theories, the U.S became the most prosperous and powerful nation on Earth.

And we are asking our African brethren not to do as the White folks tell you to do, rather do as what they did to establish economic and political union, such as the European Union set up to end the bloody wars between neighbors in Europe, which resulted in the 2nd World War. My favorite Gandhi's sarcastic answer is this....
British Reporter: “Mr. Gandhi, what do you think of Western civilization?”

Gandhi: “I think it would be a good idea!”
