Vodafone-led Global Partnership for Ethiopia will be the second operator in Ethiopia next to Ethio Telecom. It will not be an easy competition for both operators but it will be very good for businesses and private customers to have different competing operators.

Ethiopia wants to have three competing telecom operators. Vodafone and Ethio Telecom are now the two and the last operator will be determined in yet another bid. The Vodafone group paid $850 USD just for the license from which $500 USD came directly from the US government. This shows how the US is keen in entering the Ethiopian market in an attempt to reduce the influence of China.
