Britain could break up, but there's no prospect of this happening at least in the near future.
These are the questions that should rather be asked:
Could Scotland become independent?
Could Scotland afford independence?
Could scotland survive without England?
Could Scotland survive independence?
Could Scotland survive on its own?
Could Scotland be financially independent?
Scotland has never been serious about breaking away from Britain. It has been using the independence rhetoric periodically just as a bargaining chip to get more concessions from England - in the same way as Iran has never been serious about having nuclear weapons but simply using its nuclear program as a bargaining chip to get more concessions from the West.
