Tantrums undoing Ethiopia

Post by Cartmann » 11 Mar 2021, 11:32

Illogical propositions and emotional tantrums of the so-called journalists and analysts of Ethiopia is undermining the stability of the country. Most so-called analysts are shallow and they fan the already exacerbated ethnic tensions, and they bring unnecessary pressure on the government. The case of Seyoum Teshome (below) is clear example. Before even knowing what the underlying reason for the release of Kerya and others is, he has already made his conclusion; and with that he is a willing participant in the disinformation campaign. There are many questions that could have been asked, or logical reasons could have been speculated as to how and why she is released. We don't even know whether she and the others have cooperated and given valuable information to the government. She turned herself in, is rewarding her trust in the justice system wrong? Release of the woman and other low level cadres after appearing before court is good confidence building to the others who want to surrender, but who may be scared of some kind of worse consequences. There are many things that could have been said and asked. But here we are, when prominent so-called analysts misinform and fuel the emotions of the people, especially when the time calls for calm mind, how can the Ethiopian government focus and conduct its reform?

This post can land anyone in prison. They spit their venom and when they get arrested, they cry freedom of the press. Anyone is accountable for his action.

I agree Seyoum Teshome is erratic and sometimes irresponsible but to be honest you can't blame him for this one. If the attorney general let such a high profile TPLF leader (who was executive member that was part of the decision to massacre the army) free without explaining why, then the government must expect a public outcry and that is what it is getting and it deserves it. The government can't expect Ethiopians to just be silent and not question what it is doing saying "just follow me even if you don't understand what I'm doing". That is not gonna work. It has to explain why it is taking such measures. You can't blame the public and activists for this one. The blame goes right to the government!

More importantly, the government is damaging the reputation of the judiciary process. I'm not against her release but the government must provide evidence and show what makes her special than the other TPLF leaders. The law must be applied on all equally otherwise you can forget everything! Now the government is opening the speculation box and many even speculating she is free just because she admired PM Abiy during her arrest. This kind of thing just damages the reputation of the judiciary badly.

Well to some extent I agree with you. Governments should be asked and held accountable. No government should be trusted. That is the rule. If he was demanding for clarification as any decent person would do, I wouldn't have written about it. Asking for clarification and throwing tantrums all over the place are very different. Especially when one claims that he is an analyst. So he should be blamed. Asking and giving the government the chance to respond would have been fair. However, in this particular case, I don't think that everything can be explained, as the task of bringing all TPLF perpetrators is still unfinished. Anyway, cool minds win in every crisis.

Temari, this is dangerous for the country and the leadership of Ethiopia. Abiy made the greatest mistake of his little time in power. Now, TPLF will urinate in his mouth. I don't like soft leaders, at the end they weaken the country and the people. What is the rush to release this junta? at least wait till things settles down. Mistake!!!! a big one!!!!

May I ask about since when you started to think along this line of proposition?

(Could you tell me in number of months since the turn of point?)

Temari,

You don't know how much I push for transparency. However, in her case, the government may hold some information that avails itself to help prosecute the bigger fishes in the sea so to speak. Hence, give the government time to come through. The media is good and bad. That is to be expected. Media always rushes to judgements. BTW, she could be the new Abbiy's mistress. That is for the tabloid   But then again, who knows   I believe, the government has gotten what it wants from her. I am always quick to pardon the women. That is my weakness. It may be Abbiy's too.
