The ‘Peace’ That Delivered Total War Against Tigray - by Eritrean Intellectual Yosief Ghebrehiwet (A must-read)

Post by sarcasm » 24 Jan 2021, 09:53

The Abiy-Isaias-Amhara pact was structured to result in either the complete conquest of Tigray or mutual destruction.

Peace in the troubled Horn of Africa region supposedly made a spectacular arrival on 5 June 2018 when Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia agreed to implement the peace accord between Ethiopia and Eritrea as specified in the Algiers Agreement.
Two weeks later, President Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea formally reciprocated. Then he went further: he declared that his government’s primary goal would now be “Ethiopia’s stability,” deferring the actual demarcation on the ground to an unspecified time; a reversal of his approach for the previous 16 years.

Within a month or so, the two leaders had visited each other’s capitals, to the delight of residents. In the Millennium Hall, thousands of Addis Ababa elites gathered to give Isaias the reception of his life, with thunderous cries of “Isu! Isu!” resonating in the hall. Soon thereafter, when the border opened, emotional reunions took place all along the Eritrea-Tigray border.

This enthusiasm infected the outside world.

The West welcomed the rapprochement, hoping that the region would now have enduring peace leading to sustainable growth. The EU also hoped the recalcitrant refugee problem that often reaches its shores might now find a lasting solution. Now that peace has been declared, it thought the indefinite national service that has been the main reason for the mass exodus of the Eritrean youth would come to an end.

But if the West was pleased, they were not the key third parties.

Not only did Saudi Arabia initially facilitate the peace process between the two leaders, resulting in the Jeddah Peace Accord, it followed it up by giving them its highest medal, “the Order of the King Abdulaziz”, for ending war and bringing peace to the region. Next, Abiy was awarded the coveted Nobel Peace Prize. A year earlier, the UN had already joined the chorus by lifting the sanctions it had imposed on Eritrea after the U.S. dropped its half-hearted protestation.

Discoursing “DISCOURSE”

Discoursing “DISCOURSE”

Inspired by the American foreign policy journal, Foreign Affairs, the Ethiopian Foreign Relations Strategic Institute (EFRSSI) launched a quarterly policy magazine on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the National Museum. Sebhat Nega, director of the Institute, dedicated the maiden edition to Zeresenay Alemseged (PhD), a world renowned paleoanthropologist who discovered a 3.3 million year old fossil named after his daughter, Selam.

Zeresenay is one of the 17 contributors to the magazine named Discourse, up for sale for 150 Br. It reflects on his meeting with Barack Obama, former US President, during his visit to Addis Abeba, in August 2015. Edited by Dade Desta, a former journalist with the Voice of America (VOA), the 174-page maiden issue was launched in the presence of Worqneh Gebeyehu (PhD), the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Incorporating think-pieces from high profile personalities such as David Shinn (PhD), former US Ambassador to Ethiopia; Alex de Waal (PhD), the British foremost expert on the Horn of Africa; Mehari Tadesse (PhD), an expert on African issues; and Medhane Tadesse, a political analyst, the magazine aims to be a platform to debate African issues. Other notables includ Getachew Reda, former minister of Government Communications Affairs Office, and Yosief Ghebrehiwet, the authoritative thinker on Ethiopia and Eritrea affairs.

“It’s my conviction that Discourse will stimulate healthy conversation on relevant issues and provide valuable inputs for policy formulation of African governments,” said Dade, one of the three initiators alongside Tefera Gedamu and Michael Minassie.

Here is the "authoritative thinker" Yosief Ghebrehiwet in Service of Aboi Sebhat Nega the most corrupt anti-Ethiopian no less devilish than that of Meles Chenawit ." launched a quarterly policy magazine on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the National Museum. Sebhat Nega, director of the Institute,"

I used to have great respect to Yosief Ghebrehiwet but in this piece " the peace that delivered total war against Tigry " his hate for Issyas seems to cloud his judgment and boldly became TPLF's propagandist. His hope was that TPLF will invade Eritrea and will overthrow Issaya's government, he has been advocating for that for a long time. Mele's before his death tried to do that but Issyas didn't fall for that trap. Yosief when it comes to Eritrean ( with its 9 nationalities) is represented by Issyas , when it comes to Ethiopia there are Ethiopians and there are Amharas -- what an intellectual dishonesty? I thought he was better than that.
