Abbiy knew TPLF was the main threat to his power as he ascended to the office of the Prime Minister. He made peace with Eritrea. That served two purposes. TPLF would be an obstacle to the peace process hence legitimize his power to bring the TPLF out of the shelf for Good. Isayas knew it too. He declared his famous American slang phrase Game Over. The second purpose is that he needed to be surrounded with friends not enemies. The idiotic TPLF never recognized that. Meles knew it, but Isayas wanted not peace but revenge.
I believe, Abbiy read both TPLF and Isayas correctly. He might have read the fannos correctly too
