How did OPDO the junior beat OLF the senior?

Post by DefendTheTruth » 04 Oct 2020, 06:45

At the beginning, when we heard for the first time from OPDO before something 30 years or so as a creation of the TPLF, OLF has been already around for at least decades and as such is definitely an older and many people also considered this organization an authentic representative and an advocate of the rights of the Oromo people in the country. Even those who didn’t necessarily shared the view that the Oromo people’s demands would be addressed by the political program the OLF has espoused all along, which is liberation of the Oromo people from the mother land Ethiopia, they still considered the demands of the OLF are legitimate demand of the people, self-rule and cultural emancipation of the people, among others.

At the same time OPDO was considered as non bona-fide organization of the Oromo people that was created to promote primarily the interest of its creator, the TPLF, and as such it was also bombarded massively by the adherents of the OLF and others as traitors. OPDO still decided to stay near the people and try to listen to the aspirations of the people on the ground, while OLF opted to stay away and be on the ground at the propaganda level alone. Its (OLF’s) propaganda was, to some extent, not to avail, especially when targeting the youth and unexperienced section of the population.

OPDO used this opportunity, negative public image, to strengthen its internal structure and way of doing business and learned about how to become disciplined and strong political organization that would going to challenge even those who created it and maintained it for a long time and finally was able to remove its own creator from power, of course in cooperation with others in the umbrella organization. OPDO’s strength was proven in practice by then.

Organizational strength comes first and for most from internal discipline, needless to say here. OLF lacked discipline from the get go and tried to use the organization as a spring board for the privileges of few in its ranks and files. Sectarianism, regionalism and cronyism has been rampant all along in its internal structure and way of doing its businesses as a political organization. Many have attested to this and this is not my own assumption or creation. Even those who decided to opt out of the organization or free the organization from such mal-practices recently asserted to this as the main cause for the weakness of the organization. First many people considered the organization as being dominated by people from Wollega in general and those from Wollega and protestant religion in particular. Now, it is said that not even the whole Wollega but only some part of it are the main hindrance for any progress in the organization.

The main reason why Oromia region of the country is in turmoil currently stems from this malicious behavior of this organization and many of the troubles can now be safely traced back to the malpractices in the structure and behavior of OLF’s organization.

Every short-comings and problems that has happened in the region in the last two years of the reform process can be traced back to the malice in this organization.

Unless this malice is removed there will not be any much change to the betterment of the conditions prevailing in the country today. Diversion of resources from the development initiatives in the country that would have contributed to the effort to raise many people from abject poverty and move Ethiopia forward on the path of economic development and democracy, to now just keep law and order and thereby highly hinder the creation of democracy and push those in power to become more authoritarian and bring the country back to square one again is no more a mere possibility, but seems now the only option. This is a true show of vicious cycle of misery and under development for the foreseeable future.

I will challenge anybody who may dare to dispute the fact that almost all the malice that faced the Oromia region over the last 2 and half years has its root in the malice of the OLF and it is the chronic disease of the people it once claimed to defend its rights.

In other words the chronic disease of the OLF has transformed itself to become the chronic disease of the Oromo people itself and this will definitely turn to be the chronic disease of the country at large at sometime in the future, I am afraid, unless something is done in due time.

Look at and listen to what this guy is saying: "Oromumma is under attack and is threatened in its existence, that is why we need to fight".

How on earth is Oromo suddenly now under attack that he and his cohorts decided to fight against after going back from abroad, where some of them, like he himself, used to live for over 2 or 3 decades?

Can someone emprically show us how Oromumma is under attack and if yes, how much more than it used to be before under the preceeding governments? They didn't decide to fight against and instead opted to stay abroad all along, which they can't pursue any more.

This is distorting truth and that in turn weakens the organization itself primarily and shows how this organization lacks discipline and propagating falsehoods.
