The Ethiopian State should have a firm foundation. Ethnic Federalism is not befitting for a country such as Ethiopia. Melting pot approach is also not the solution.
Whether we like it or not, there are primitive tribes in Ethiopia. It is immoral to allow these primitive tribes mix up with the more advanced regions in the country. I prefer the Oromo to Mursi tribes as the mursi are still living naked and practically contribute nothing to the economy. I prefer the Oromo to Gambella tribes as the Gambella tribes are more primitive than the Oromo. The Oromo are too primitive but less primitive than Mursi or Somali.
We need to divide the country not on Ethnic basis but on practical administrative division. Ethnic Federalism leads to more divisions and tensions as the recent developments in Oromo show.
We should encourage geographical names as was the case under the previous regimes. Ethiopia could be divided into 30 provinces or Kile Hagerat. Each province or Kifle Hager has an area of 30000 square Kilometers. Sparsely populated area like Somali or Afar regions could have an area of 25000 square kilometers. By doing this we strengthen our country Ethiopia and we weaken ethnic groups.
Areas like Wolqait, which is now in tigray, could be made a province accountable to the centralgovernment. Raya could also be a province accountable to the central government. Ogaden could be a province accountable to the central government. Names such as Afar, Somali, Tigray, Oromo, amhara should not be given to regions or provinces. Names such as Gondar, Goajamme, shoao, wello should replaced with geographical names etc.
Ethiopia needs such radical changes to assert itself as a country. Ethnic Federalism is simply anti-thesis of federalism. We need to abolish Ethnic Federalism. However, Ethiopia needs to use more languages as working languages. Amharic, Tigrigna and Oromo could be used as working languages. Using only amharic as a working language could mean more exclusiveness. The amhara should learn other local languages.
