I agree with Shimilis. When TPLF was driven Ethiopian politics, we were told more than thirty million Oromos think politically alike. We cried that was not true. We argued even in a single family not all family members necessarily share the same politics. We were told that were the “neftegnas” talking.
We knew we have been right all along. Fact and history backs our side of argument. But we were shut out. Not any more.
There is a struggle going on between two political camps. On one side there are Oromo politicians who believe Menilik is the starting point to map out their politics. On the other side there are politicians who argue, yes we learn from history, however to get to a better future we should laser focus about the future. In a country where seventy percent of Ethiopians are under thirty years, the latter is a winning strategy. Shimilis and Oromos like him will chart the future of Oromos politics in particular and Ethiopian politics in general, not Jawar and Bekele Gerba.

Abere, I do not think Shimilis was a reactionary politician to begin with. I agree he might have had a political miscalculation. He might have , in his own mind , exaggerated the influence Jawar might have on young Oromos. As a result he might have said something he cannot repeat it now.
See the current political equation this way : Jawar himself could not make the same speech he gave two years ago.
Yes, Ethiopian politics has moved slowly, but surely, for the last two years away from cursing Menilik to envisioning a bright future.
