Honestly the whole situation is a bit blown up. Yes it is a novel virus, related to viruses which are fairly dangerous. However currently it is unknown how dangerous this virus is, but most certainly less than what media makes it out to be.

Mortality primarily occurs in elderly patients with pre existing conditions. And most likely there are more infections than reported, however a lot of these will be asymptomatic (which also occurs for MERS-CoV).

There is no need for scaremongering but offering advice on how to minimise the spread of this virus.

I think the maxim should be called: be extremely cautious but never panic, because panicking will only cost you more.

To be cautious you need to have the facts in perspective.

It took about 3 months before the first 100K people were infected (at least officially). But it took only 12 days to add another 100K infected cases. It is of course the speed which is worrisome now.

Even if you are not directly in a danger for your life, you are still a danger for the lives of many people around you, that is why you have to be extremely cautious here (assuming that you are young and have got a well developed immune system).

The situation is serious and we all need to take it seriously, in my view. And time is an important factor here. in 2 to 3 years there could be medication for therapy and immunization, hopefully. Untiil then the only viable option we have is to try to slow down the spread!

please try to choose your words more responsibily. This is a time of crisis and the crisis itself is being fueled yet with all kinds of allegations and rumors.

It doesn't simply mean that 55% of the general population is in danger, simply because that much could be potentially infected with the virus, even if that would be the case, very tentative assumption.

Please differentiate between a potential and a real risk.

Potentially the world itself is at risk at any time, but realistically not so at risk. Have this fact in perspective while making any claim, there are many people who are worried for themselves and their loved ones.
