Ethiopian Parliament rejected Daniel Kibret's appointment to press agency. However the speaker declared he has been approved. Article 59(1) of the constitution states "Unless otherwise provided in the Constitution, all decisions of the House shall be by a majority vote of the members present and voting. "
148 members voted in favor
126 voted against
24 abstained
That means 298 MPs were present and 150 is needed to secure majority. Yet Daniel got 148 which means he did not get the majority vote needed to be confirmed. House Speaker Tagesse Chafo must rectify this mistake. He should also revoke appointment of foreign nationals whose appointment was approved today without disclosing their citizenship status to Members of Parliament.
