The current debate about the GERD and the history of "Back To Africa" Movement

Post by DefendTheTruth » 08 Mar 2020, 14:04

To win the current debate over the GERD more easily, then go back in time to the history of "Back To Africa" Movement.

Ato Taye Bogale has a clue on how to make the connection between what makes Ethiopia what it is and the history of "Back To Africa", which I found a very interesting case, specially with regard to the current US-Administrations "ruling" on the GERD discussion between Ethiopia and Egypt.

Ethiopia was and will remain the source and symbol of Emanicipation of the black race and therein lies its strongest strategic ties. We can probably use this tie to our advantage to overcome the current deadlock over the Abay Dam discussion and garner the needed support for our cause.

I also remember what the former President of South Africa, Mr. Thabo Mbeki, once said in one of his speeches in Addis and I came across somewhere in the interenet before couple of years.

In his speech he essentially said something like" we are not only the losers, in reference to the black race in general, but there are success stories as well, he noted:

At the end of 18th century a small black country in the western hemisphere succeeded in defeating colonialism, with reference to Haiti in the Caribbean.

At the end of the 19th century the success story came from Ethiopia in the form of defeating a white colonialist european super power of the time, with reference to Adawa.

At the End of the 20th century the success story was that of his own country which fianally succeeded in defeating one of the most barbaric form of government of modern time in the name of Apartheid". This what I still remember after a number of years.

Connecting all these 4 dots already can do much of the job in solving today's problems, I think.

There is also a lyrics about "Back To Africa", but I am not sure if the Movement and the lyrics are both about the same issue. Here below the lyrics, which is not necessarily what I am talking about in this message. I am namely talking about the Movement itself here.

The Lyrics:

"Move ya. back to Africa!
Move ya. back to Africa!
Open your eyes

And you will see
A far off land
For you and me
Africa is her name

A place
Where we'll be free
Once again
So we have to

Move ya. back to Africa!
Hear what dem say!
Move ya. (got to) back to Africa!
Got to leave

These critical states
We got to get out
Before it's too late
Free ourselves

From all persecutions
Got to get free
From the wicked Babylon

So we have to
Move ya. back to Africa!
Hear what dem say!
Move ya. (got to) back to Africa!
That's where we come from!

So we'll have to
Move ya. back to Africa!
Move ya. (got to move ya) back to Africa!
Hear what dem say!

Now you've seen your destiny
It's time to forget
Past misery

Lord when we get there
We're gonna fill our hearts
Fill our hearts with joy

Move ya. back to Africa!
Move ya. back to Africa!

Back to Africa!
Back to Africa!

Ethiopia is rightfully, giving a lot of importance to its own people ,but it is not ignoring the 'water' rights of Egypt.
Egypt gets its share of water too. the Question is how long Egypt can depend on the Nile river? there is a possibility of drought which Egypt can't put the blame on Ethiopia or even the diversion of tributary rivers to the Nile within Ethiopia.
Egypt must learn to live without the mercy of the Nile and take a look at how Libya,Soud arabia manage without rivers of their own let alone from neighbouring countries.
