TPLF's forked tongue; it was only two decades ago that close to 80,000 Eritreans were forcibly deported from Ethiopia. One only needs to see at Eritrea's measured response, to the cruel act of TPLF at the time. A quote taken from President Isaias Afwerqi's interview with Hadas Eritrea; special issue, October 2000.

From Feb. 21-23, 1950, a few days after the arrival of the UN commission of inquiry to assess options on the future of Eritrea, pro-Ethiopia Unionist Party instigated inter-ethnic violence erupted in Asmara & its surrounding areas.
The immediate cause of the violence was the killing of a pro-freedom Eritrean, by a Unionist member. Many people were killed & wounded. Abune Markos & Mufti Ibrahim Mukhtar intervened to end the violence.

Eritrea has participated at the 10th Session of World Urban Forum as well as at the 75th Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.
The Eritrean Ambassador in Kenya, Mr. Beyene Russom participated at the 10th Session of World Urban Forum held from 8 to 13 February in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, representing Eritrea and as a Chairman of the UN Human Settlement Program and as member of advisory committee of the forum. The objective of the forum was to discuss on the efforts being exerted to build human and social capital, to build a sustainable urban future with a special focus on youth and women as well as innovation of urban solutions in housing, mobility and planning.
In the same vein, an Eritrean delegation headed by Ms. Tekea Tesfamicael, President of the National Union of Eritrean Women, participated at the 75th regular Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women held on 14 February at the office of the United Nations in Geneva.
At the meeting the Eritrean delegation presented its 6th report focusing on the developments registered in avoiding political, socio-economic as well as cultural discriminations against women in Eritrea.
The delegation also said the Eritrean Government since the armed struggle for national independence has been committed to ensure the rights and development of Eritrean women.

Activities by nationals in Diaspora

Asmara, 20 February 2020- Eritrean nationals in Italy, the UK, Germany, South Sudan and Saudi Arabia conducted various activities.
According to reports, nationals residing in the Italian cities of Rome, Milan, Bologna, Parma, Firenze, Pisa, Napoli, Catania, Bari, Verona and Torino, as well as in North London and in German cities of Manheim and Kaiserslautern commemorated the 30th anniversary of Operation Fenkil under the theme: “Fenkil for Development”.
At the events, the nationals expressed conviction to live up to the expectations of the martyrs and strengthen participation and contribution in successful implementation of the national development endeavors.
The YPFDJ organization in Juba, South Sudan also organized a discussion forum on 16 February under the theme: “Influence of Social Media”.
At the forum, a call was made on the Eritrean youth to increase awareness on the negative and positive sides of social media.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Yohannes Teklemicael, Eritrean Ambassador in South Sudan, commending for organizing such a forum with a view to increase the awareness of the Eritrean youth on social media, called for strengthening organizational capacity and for organizing similar programs.
Likewise, the association of Eritreans truck owners- ‘White’- in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, conducted activity assessment meeting on 16 February.
