But I disagree with your fear of academics' control. They do. Whether we like it r not they run the world. Their brain power give them an advantage over the ordinary soul. That is not a bad thing. You have been a witness about who is creating the world wealth now. Yes, they are those with more neurons than the rest of us. When it becomes to Ethiopia, as Meles implied,they reward incompetence. Say to be a business minister, you have to understand business. We are not talking about running a convenience store in the neighborhood. That’s kind of a blanket statement. Let’s say the Mursi don’t have any college graduate or the Surma got just one degree holder. Are you going to tell them that they can’t be represented or need to recycle the same fellow until someone shows up with a degree. I know where you’re coming from and, yes, we should celebrate higher education and encourage competent college graduates to run for office but saying that political positions are exclusively for them would set a very bad precedent. Educated politicians have made bad decisions and screwed up the world as much as they contributed towards its betterment. It was white educated politicians that prohibited minorities from voting in many countries for the same reason and shaped the politics in their favor. There are non-degree holders who are wise and smart and could be great leader as there are college drop-out innovators, businessmen, millionaires and billionaires. For example, some of the great American successes are people without college degree: Walt Disney, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, George Clooney, etc. As a matter of fact, professional associations are recognizing this reality and are issuing licensure these days to non-graduate expertises.

Great world leaders like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Winston Churchill didn’t have college degrees. Even Jacob Zuma never went to school but he successfully led South Africa for eight years.

Well, Woyanes are inherently fvcked up. They know what they want, which is mainly money. Since they don’t have any merit, they choose to get it through lie, theft, manipulation and extortion. And for that, they need to be in power.

But their biggest problem is they are not adaptable and they don’t know how to prioritize. They just drool over all the potential prospects out there and want to have it all, both ways, double dip, triple dip, you name it. But they end up getting none. TPLF members already resigned from TPLF when they join the government. they no longer serve their party but the government ... even then UNDER tplf, EPRDF get together and they vote that is how they elected Dr. Abiy and fire the other with the voting system.

just because Dr. Abiy dismantles EPRDF and established Pee Pee party .. without the consent of EPRDF .. What I am saying is the Ethiopian government has around twenty ministries. It is not a stretch to expect those twenty positions should be filled at least by a first degree holder, or more appropriately by a graduate degree holder.
Yes, education cannot mentally liberate everybody. Some use it for evil purposes. My favorite example is Gobbles , the propaganda minister of Nazi Germany. He got his PHD at age twenty seven. He served Hitler who was not completed even high school. Here is the saddest news about him. When the Allies were closed in he and his family were in the bunker with Hitler. Before he and his wife took their lives, they poisned and killed five of their little kids. He did not imagine of his kids living a free, productive live without Hitler being around.

I assume when the late prime minister was doing what Abiy is doing now not a single TPLF politician or cadre questioned the legality of his doing. But the law states both Meles and Abiy are on their right to appoint or fire minister as they wish.
